Young Frankentein is a American comedy film from 1974 directed by Mel Brooks. The film is a parody on the classic Universal horror films of the 1930s, such asDracula, from The Invisible Man and, of course, Frankenstein. Hergebruikten for the filmmakers film sets of the original Frankenstein movies and filmed them in black and white.

Brooks called his best ever film Young Frankenstein . He was nominated for Oscars for best screenplay and best sound as well as for Golden Globes for best actress (Cloris Leachman) and best supporting actress for (Madeline Kahn). Nine other film awards were actually won, including a Hugo Award and Golden Scrolls for best horror film, Best Director, best supporting actor, best makeup and best sceneries (Marty Feldman)

In 2003 the film was included in the National Film Registry.


When the movie came out and proved to be a success, appeared more Frankenstein-parodies. The Turkish film Sadiq Frankestayn from 1975 was literally a remake of the film. Also the horror parody Vampira with David Niven released in North America under the name Old Dracula to take advantage of Young Frankensteins success. In the television special The Halloween That Almost Wasn't is the cultural impact of the film discussed. Also there were references to the film in the comedy series Family GuyThe Simpsons and Reno 911! .
