The U.s. Open, which takes place annually at the end of August, the last Grand Slam tournament of the tennis season. The U.s. Open comes from two different tournaments, a men's and a women's tournament. The U.S. National men's Singles Championship was first held in 1881 at NewportRhode Island. Also here the double Championships took place from 1900. The women's team competition was held for the first time in 1887 on the Philadelphia Cricket Club; starting from 1889 were here also double Championships (just and mixed) held.

In 1968 the two tournaments were merged with the five championships and was the name of the tournament US Open. Until 1978 was made the tournament place on theWest Side Tennis Club in Forest Hills, Queens, New York. Here was originally played on grass, but in 1975 the grass runways were replaced by gravel. Since 1978 the US Open takes place at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in FlushingQueensNew York City. Since then, the tournament played on hard court. Since 1997 the main fixtures in the Arthur Ashe Stadium held. Jimmy Connors is the only player to the tournament on three different surfaces (grass, clay and hard court) has won.

The u.s. Open is one of the most lucrative tournaments for Scrabble (t) ers. In 2013 the total prize money amounted to USD 34.3 million. Of this was twice $ 2.6 million reserved for the winner of both the men's and Ladies singles game. The losing Finalist (e) as a rule, receive a price equal to half of what the winner deserves. The u.s. Open is charged equal prices apply to all since 1973 the gentlemen and the ladies.
