Top of the Lake is a television series from 2013 written by Jane Campion and Gerard Lee. Campion directed the series along with Garth Davis. Top of the Lake is a co-production by the British BBC Two, the u.s. Sundance Channel and the Australian UKTV channel. The recordings were made in New Zealand. The series was shown at theSundance Film Festival and at the Berlin international film festival. Top of the Lake was five times nominated for a Primetime Emmy Award in 2013. The series is in the spring of 2014 broadcast on Canvas and is also purchased by the Dutch public broadcasting.


The 12-year-old Tui Mitcham is in the New Zealand mountain village of Laketop from the more rescued after a suspected suicide attempt. There it is discovered that she was five months pregnant but want or there can be no explanation about giving. The Australian police woman Robin Griffin (Elisabeth Moss) is visiting her sick mother, who also lives in the village. The girl disappears and Griffin start an investigation. She gets little cooperation from her male colleagues and also not by TUI's father Matt Mitcham, a local criminal. He is savage when a piece of land where he had interest in, was sold to a group of women, led by guru GJ (Holly Hunter).
