Russell Ira Crowe (Wellington (Wellington), 7 april 1964) is an Australian actor born in New Zealand . He won an Academy Award in 2001 for his starring role in Gladiatorand was additionally nominated for the same award for The Insider and A Beautiful Mind. In addition, awarded him more than 25 other film awards, including a Golden Globe and a BAFTA Award (both for A Beautiful Mind). In april 2010 Crowe got a star on the famous Hollywood Walk of Fame.

Crowes parents took care of the catering on movie sets and took their son from an early age to the set. At the age of four he moved with his family to SydneyAustralia.

After having played in a few episodes of, among other things, the Australian soap opera Neighbours in the early 1990s he got some big roles in Australian films. Especially the controversial Romper Stomper, an Australian film about skinheads, took care of great international attention.

Sharon Stone took it in 1995 to Hollywood for the film The Quick and the Dead. Two years later he finally broke through in the modern film noir L.A. Confidential. In 1999, he received his first Oscar nomination for The Insider.

The film that Crowe was finally established his name Gladiator by Ridley Scott in 2000. The film was a commercial success in both the public (he spent in America alone, more than 180 million dollars) as at the critics, despite that the film was a historical epic , a film genre that no successes since the 1960s had known more. In addition, the lead role was one of an actor who had not yet reached the star status. Among other things, the film finally won the Academy Award for best picture and the Academy Award for best actor for Crowe.

He also showed In 2001 to work with more subdued by for the film A Beautiful Mind to crawl into the skin of the schizophrenic mathematician John Forbes Nash. Crowe got his third Oscar nomination for the role. In 2003 appeared Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World, a zeevaardersepos. In 2005 he worked with Ron Howard(Director of A Beautiful Mind) to the boxing movie Cinderella Man.

In 2000, Crowe had a relationship with actress Meg Ryan, whom he met during the filming of Proof of Life. On 7 april 2003 married Crowe with the Australian singer and actress Dani elle Spencer, whom he knew since 1989. They have two sons: Charles Spencer Crowe (born on 21 december 2003) and Tennyson Spencer Crowe (born on 7 July 2006).

Crowe founded in 1992 along with some friends the rock band 30 Odd Foot Of Grunts on Crowe was the lead singer and guitarist.. The band released three albums but has never become a great success. Meanwhile the band disbanded. Along with Alan Doyle of the Canadian band Great Big Sea brought Crowe in 2005 an album for iTunes. He did this under the stage name Russ Le Roq.

Arrest[Edit]Edit

Crowe was arrested In June 2005 because of abuse by a hotel clerk in New York City. He threw a phone to the hotel clerk, because who refused to help him immediately. Crowe's the phone in the room did not and he demanded that the Clerk would fix this right away. Crowe was conditionally sentenced and had to pay $ 100,000. Later he called this event "the worst situation in which I have involved myself."
