Khaled Hosseini (KabulMarch 4, 1965) is an American writer and doctor of Afghan descent.

Life Course[Edit]Edit

His father was employed at the Afghan Ministry of Foreign Affairs, his mother was a teacher at a high school for girls in Kabul. In 1970 the Ministry sent the family toTehranIran, where his father went to work for the Afghan Embassy . In 1973 his whole family went back to Kabul, and his youngest brother was born in this year. In 1976 his father found a job in ParisFrance. In 1978 there was a bloody coup village in the homeland, which the Communists came to power. This father decided to not return to Afghanistan Hosseini, but in order to request political asylum in the United States. Around 1980 , the family settled in San JoséCalifornia. Because they had made the crossing with few resources, they lived a short period in the assistance.

Khaled Hosseini earned his high school diploma in 1984 and went to study at the Santa Clara University, where he was four years later obtained his bachelor of biology .In 1989 he entered medicine study at the University of San Diego, where he earned his title as Doctor of Medicine . He completed his training to internist at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles in 1996.


As a child, an enormous amount of las Hosseini Persian literature to translations of foreign novels, from Alice in Wonderland to Mickey Spillane's crime stories. His memories of a peaceful Afghanistan, for the interference of the Soviet Union and his personal experiences with the ethnic Hazarapopulation were the inspiration for his first novel The haunting childhood. Also in his second novel, a thousand splendid Suns, he parts from his life processed.


  • The software developer (2003, original title The kite runner) is the story of Amir, an Afghan boy who is trying to get a closer relationship with his father and also struggling with a shocking event in his childhood years. The novel is set against the historical background of the fall of the monarchy until the collapse of the Taliban regime, and near San Francisco. Among the many themes of the book include the tensions between the ethnic Hazaraand Pashtun-population groups, and the experiences of Amir and his father as immigrants in the United States. The book was in the u.s. the third best selling book of 2005 and is as a film published in 2008, see The Kite Runner. [1]
  • A thousand splendid Suns (2007, original title A Thousand Splendid Suns) is a chronicle of thirty years of Afghan history seen through the eyes of two women.
