Kate Elizabeth Winslet (Reading (Berkshire), October 5, 1975) is a British actress. She got for her starring role in The Reader an Oscarin 2009. In addition, its more than 35 other film awards, including Golden Globes for Revolutionary Road and The ReaderBAFTA Awards for Sense and Sensibility and The Reader and European Film Awards for Iris and Titanic .

In her birthplace is the Winslet Place named after her. This is the site of a wrecked movie theater.

Leads Winslets career began in 1991 with a performance in an episode of Dark Season, a science fiction television series by BBC One. In 1994 made her film career a jump when she had her first leading role in Peter Jackson's Heavenly Creatures . Since then, she starred in several movies, including the successful 1997 film Titanic , which won eleven Oscars. Winslet was nominated for an Oscar a total of six times and nine times for a Golden Globe. She is the youngest actress who has six Oscar nominations.

On 22 november 1998 she married Assistant Director Jim Threapleton, with whom she had a daughter on October 12, 2000. In 2001 she started her marriage with Threapleton stranded and a relationship with Director Sam Mendes. Winslet and Mendes were married on 24 May 2003 and later that year they got a son. On March 15, 2010 it was announced that the two parted. [2]In december 2012, she married Ned Rocknroll. Also from this marriage followed a son.

Winslet since the taping of Titanic is good friends with actor Leonardo DiCaprio.
