Katherine Kiernan Maria "Kate" Mulgrew (Dubuque, Iowaapril 29, 1955) is an American actress. She is the third oldest of eight children and the first daughter.

She has played in several plays, television series and films, but is probably best known for her role as Captain Kathryn Janeway in the science fiction television series Star Trek: Voyager and the subsequent film Star Trek: Nemesis (2002).

Mulgrew also played in feature films as Throw Momma from the Train (1987), Round Numbers (1992) Perception (2005) and the lead role in the play Tea at Five. This piece is about the life of the legendary Katharine Hepburn.
