Aston Villa is an English football club from Birmingham. The club was founded in 1874 , and in 1888 was one of the founders of the Football LeagueBirmingham City is the other major football club based in Birmingham.

Even before the creation of the League the club wins her first prize, the FA Cup in 1887. Six years after creation of the League, is Aston Villa al champion, in 1894. In the twenty years after Villa successful, with five times the Championship and the FA Cup five times. After the first world war it went less, which eventually resulted in degradation in 1936. But in 1938, Villa al back again at the highest level.

After the Second World War Aston Villa was no more than mediocre. Little striking results were achieved, until 1957. When it was surprisingly won the FA Cup. But the success was not lasting, two years later followed all degradation, but a year later again promotion. But the malaise continued. There was too little money and poor management, whereby in 1967 again relegation followed, and in 1969 even relegation to the third Division.

The road then went up again, and in 1974 it was Aston Villa back on the highest level. And in 1980 was the success was complete, the national championship in 1981 under trainer Ron Saunders achieved. A year later, the team won (without Saunders, who fired was) the final of the European Cup football club tournament in whichBayern Munich was defeated. It was provisionally the last great prize. In the 90 's, there were twice the League Cup, but Villa could never in the Premier Leagueopponents.
