Angelina Jolie (Los Angeles, June 4, 1975) is an American actress. She won three Golden Globes, two Screen Actors Guild Awards, and an Oscar, for her roles in George Wallace (1997), Gia (1998), and Girl, Interrupted (1999). They gained international fame with her role as video-game heroine Lara Croft in Lara Croft: Tomb Raider (2001), and established himself as one of the best paid actresses in Hollywood with the sequel Tomb Raider The Cradle of Life (2003). 
Jolie proved her status as a successful action movie star with Mr. & Mrs. Smith (2005) and Wanted (2008)-her biggest blockbusters to date -and received rave reviews for her roles in A Mighty Heart (2007) and Changeling (2008), for which she won an Oscar nomination. Forbes appointed her to Hollywoods best paid actress in 2009 and 2011.  
In addition to her acting career, Jolie since 2001 active for the UN refugee agency UNHCR, first as Goodwill Ambassador and since 2012 as Special Envoy. She is several times voted the most beautiful and sexiest woman in the world.         After marriages with actors Jonny Lee Miller (1996-1999) and Billy Bob Thornton (2000-2003), Jolie has since 2005 a relationship with actor Brad Pitt, with whom she had six children. In 2012, it was announced that they are engaged.

Jolie was born in Los Angeles, California , the daughter of actors Jon Voight and Marcheline Bertrand. She is a sister of Director James Haven, a niece of Chip Taylor, songwriter and a godchild of actors Jacqueline Bisset and Maximilian Schell. Jolie has German, Slovak, French Canadian and Dutch blood. About her family background is more visible in the International Museum of family history in Eijsden (Limburg), such as a schedule showing that it is through her mother, among other things, a second cousin of former Prime Minister Wim Kok as well as the founder of the museum. 
When Jolie was six months old her father left the family, and with her mother and brother moved to the State of New York .  ten years later the family returned to Los Angeles, where eleven-year-old Jolie decided to become an actress and enrolled at the prestigious Lee Strasberg Theatre Institute.

While filming Tomb Raider in Cambodia for the first time at the end of 2000 was Jolie personally aware of worldwide humanitarian crises. They contacted UNHCR, theUnited Nationsrefugee agency, to learn more about international problem areas.  In February 2001, Jolie on her first field visit, an 18-day mission to Sierra Leone andTanzania.  In the following months she returned for two weeks back to Cambodia and later met with Afghan refugees in Pakistan to whom she donated $ 1 million in response to an international UNHCR emergency appeal On 27 August 2001, Jolie appointed UNHCR Goodwill Ambassador in the UNHCR headquarters in Geneva. 
Jolie has visited reception centres for refugees and displaced persons in more than 20 countries.  In 2002 she visited the Tham Hin refugee camp in Thailand andColombian refugees in Ecuador.  Later that year Jolie visited various UNHCR facilities in Kosovo and paid a visit to Kakuma refugee camp in Kenya where mainly refugees from Sudan resided. They also met Angolan refugees while filming Beyond Borders in Namibia.
In 2003, Jolie on a six-day mission to Tanzania where she visited camps for Congolese refugees and spent a week with displaced persons in Sri Lanka. Later that year she went on a four-day mission to Russiain Ciskaukasië . In conjunction with the release of the film, Beyond Bordersshe published Notes from My Travels, a collection of diary notes about her field missions in 2001 and 2002. During a private stay in Jordan in december 2003 she visited Iraqi refugees and later that month she departed to Egyptto meet Sudanese refugees.
She flew to Chad In June 2004 to visit refugees from the Darfur region in Western Sudan. Four months later she returned to the area for a visit to West Darfur. Later that year Jolie met Afghan refugees in Thailand, and during a private stay in Lebanon in the Christmas holidays she visited UNHCR's regional office in Beirut, as well as some young refugees and cancer patients in the Lebanese capital. 
In 2005, Jolie visited Afghan refugees in Pakistan; during the trip she met Pakistani president Pervez Musharraf and Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz. In november, she returned to Pakistan with Brad Pitt to the consequences of the Kashmir earthquake fix. While filming A Mighty Heart in India in 2006 met Jolie Afghan and Burmese refugees in New Delhi. She spent Christmas day with Colombian refugees in San José, Costa Rica, where they would hand out gifts. Since October 2013 she works together with the British Foreign Secretary William Hague to a program to put an end to the frequent rapes in war zones. Hague took that step after seeing her film Land of blood and honey. Their cooperation has yielded a training program for "Blue Helmets", the peacekeepers of the United Nations, which often inaction at rapes and sometimes (Eastern Congo) itself to guilty of.
